The Oasis

 

Support for people living with AIDS, their family and caregivers.

The “OASIS” Ministry complements the activities of professional medical care givers providing services at the 3 HIV and AIDS related clinics at the Tshwane District Hospital, which serves 8000 people of whom 1000 are children.

The “OASIS” task is to provide care, counseling and physical support for people living with AIDS, their families and the staff who care for them.
The current programs provided by the “OASIS” ministry include

  • Provision of free meals to patients, families and care staff
  • Provision of free clothing to patients
  • Distribution of food parcels to patients
  • Counseling to patients, families and care staff
  • Job creation for patients through the making of teddy bears for sick children and gift boxes.
  • Financial assistance to patients, mainly in the provision of fares to and from the hospitals through liaison with hospital Social Workers
  • Prayer support to patients, families and care staff, either directly in the “OASIS” chapel located in the complex, or through the availability of Prayer Request Boxes
  • Joop Jorna Education Fund: Joop was one of the founders members of the Oasis and has since passed away. In cooperation and with the support of his congregation HospiVision has established and manages this educational fund. The purpose of the fund is:
    • Provision of educational sponsorships to keep infected children in the schooling system.
    • Provision of education and training for HospiVision staff
