What you will learn

  • Illness and the Hospital Environment: Goals of pastoral care; understanding illness and its conflicts; navigating the healthcare environment; illness and healing in the African context.
  • Basic Counselling Skills: Key traits of a counsellor; listening and exploring emotions; empathetic responses and questioning; conversational models for pastoral care.
  • Spiritual and Pastoral Support: Spirituality in healthcare; biblical models for crisis understanding; addressing emotional and spiritual needs; using Scripture, prayer, and focused care.

University of Pretoria Certificate

As an extension to the course, delegates have the option to do an additional assignment, which will be sent to the University of Pretoria for accreditation. The details of the certificate are discussed during the course. Please note that certificates are issued only once a year by the University of Pretoria. The UP certificate for any courses completed during 2025, will be issued in 2026 by the University.
