Objectives of the Workshop
This workshop is intended to equip healthcare workers with the necessary skills and knowledge to understand the legal aspects and ethical considerations involved in providing multi-dimensional care that addresses the holistic needs of their patients.
Participants will be encouraged to foster empathy and respect for patients' diverse
worldviews, and to enhance patient well-being by integrating personal, cultural and moral values into ethical decision-making. Compassion will be highlighted as an ethical and professional responsibility to act in the patient’s best interest.
There will be a focus on autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice to ensure patient-centred respect and legal duties under Bill of Rights and National Health Act 61 of 2003. In addition, the workshop will focus on the mental health of healthcare professionals and discuss self-care as an ethical and professional responsibility to avoid burnout and ensure patient safety. Staff will be encouraged to reconnect with their own sense of purpose as a means of preventing burnout and maintaining emotional resilience.
