Tygerberg Hospital

Tygerberg Hospital serves as the headquarters for HospiVision's Western Cape operations, coordinated by Kelbi Nell. Located in Cape Town, this leading academic hospital is one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and provides an ideal setting for our integrated approach to spiritual care, counselling, and volunteer training.

Under the coordination of Amy Julies, the Tygerberg office manages a large and diverse team of volunteers who provide spiritual care and emotional support to patients across the hospital's many wards.

HospiVision operates at Tygerberg Hospital through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Tygerberg Pastoral Forum, which the hospital recognises as the official body for spiritual care. This collaborative structure ensures coordinated, professional pastoral services throughout the hospital.

Tygerberg Hospital serves as a vital training site, hosting Master of Divinity (MDiv) students from Stellenbosch University for their annual practical blocks. These students provide immediate care to patients while shadowing veteran volunteers, gaining hands-on experience that they will carry into their future roles as community ministers and chaplains.

Our volunteers provide compassionate care to children and families in the paediatric wards, using play-based emotional support techniques. Generous donations from partners like Kenridge Church-including soft toys, blankets, and puzzles-help facilitate these sessions, bringing comfort to young patients during difficult hospital stays.
