About TRH
Tshwane Rehabilitation Hospital is a 79-bed hospital that focuses on physical rehabilitation services for adults and children from Gauteng and neighbouring provinces, caring for people recovering from stroke, spinal cord injuries, amputation, head injuries and other life-changing conditions. It is a place where the journey is long, and where hope can be hard to hold onto.
That is where HospiVision comes in. When sickness, hospitalisation, and disability cause people to lose hope, our spiritual caregivers are there to walk alongside them — to encourage, to pray, and to remind each patient that recovery is not a road they travel alone. Every person here bears the image of God, whatever their body can or cannot yet do. Our work at the hospital is led by our coordinator, Johannah Sawa, who together with her team brings this ministry of presence and hope into the wards week after week.
What We Do
Our care follows a steady weekly rhythm. Tuesday mornings begin with devotions among the patients, opening the week with encouragement. Through the afternoons we move from bed to bed for one-on-one visits, sitting with patients and their families to offer spiritual and emotional counselling and to pray with those who welcome it. We also make time to support the hospital's own staff, offering debriefing to the healthcare workers who carry the emotional weight of rehabilitation work, and Sunday services are conducted by a visiting pastor and his team.
Skills, Dignity, and Purpose
Rehabilitation is about regaining independence, and so our care reaches beyond the bedside. Through our skills development programme, patients learn crocheting and netting — gentle, hands-on work that rebuilds confidence, restores a sense of purpose, and brings dignity during a long recovery. We are grateful to the wool shop in Gezina, which continues to donate wool to keep this programme going.
A Growing Ministry
We also give thanks for an open door to do more. Our team recently added Thursdays as an additional day of service, welcoming six new volunteers to help reach more patients each week — a sign of a ministry that is steadily growing alongside the need. Week by week, HospiVision brings encouragement, prayer, and practical skills to the patients, families, and staff of Tshwane Rehabilitation Hospital — a faithful, hopeful presence in a place dedicated to recovery, where the focus is always on a person's abilities, not their disabilities.
